About the Role:

Romi Cumes Somatic Therapy, P.C. is seeking a compassionate and professional Associate MFT (or ASW) to join our growing somatic-relational psychotherapy practice. This part-time position is specifically for AMFTs with experience and formal clinical training in somatic psychotherapy, somatic-relational therapy, or trauma-informed, body-centered approaches.

While in-person sessions are available in our Santa Barbara office, we welcome applicants throughout California who can provide high-quality telehealth sessions.

Who You Are:

You have received in-person, clinical training in somatic psychotherapy (e.g., Sensorimotor, Somatic Experiences, Hakomi, IFS, Bioenergetics, EMDR, etc.)

  • You are passionate about somatic psychotherapy and providing person-centered care
  • You are self-motivated, organized, and efficient
  • You are confident working with trauma, anxiety, depression, and relational issues
  • You value mindfulness, embodiment, self-care, and a relational approach to therapy

Minimum Requirements:

  • Registered AMFT or ASW in California
  • Minimum of one year of post-graduate clinical experience
  • (Exceptions may be considered based on relevant somatic training)
  • Completion of a RCST-approved somatic psychotherapy training (Level 1+), with at least one in-person module (min. 3 days)
  • Tech Proficiency: Comfortable using SimplePractice or a similar EHR platform for scheduling, documentation, and telehealth.
  • Telehealth Setup: For remote clinicians, a reliable, private, and confidential home environment is required for telehealth sessions.
  • Responsive and organized with client communications and documentation
  • Commitment to self-care and professional growth

Not Ideal For:

Due to the demographics of our client population, this position is not ideal for associates primarily seeking hours in child, family, or conjoint therapy. While occasional referrals in these areas may arise, most clients are adult individuals. Self-directed associates are welcome to pursue additional hours in any category outside the practice.

Core Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide individual psychotherapy sessions via telehealth and/or in-person (Santa Barbara office optional)
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including progress notes and treatment plans, in a timely manner
  • Manage client scheduling, intake coordination, and ongoing correspondence
  • Attend weekly supervision and participate in case consultation
  • Integrate somatic-relational approaches alongside evidence-based modalities
  • Offer relevant resources or referrals to enhance client care and support
  • Practice Development & Professional Responsibilities
  • Committed to ongoing professional and personal development, with the ability to effectively manage time and prioritize caseload growth
  • Responds promptly to supervisor and practice-related needs, including new onboarding, training, client inquiries, scheduling, and other business-related communications
  • Demonstrates foundational business acumen and organizational skills relevant to private practice settings
  • Takes initiative, follows through, and consistently engages in building and maintaining a sustainable caseload
  • Actively participates in marketing and outreach efforts to support independent client acquisition in addition to referrals from RCST
  • Maintain a professional online presence (e.g., Psychology Today, Monarch, personal website, or relevant platforms)
  • Collaborate with the supervisor on practice development strategies and care-related community outreach

Compensation (W-2 employee)

  • Private Pay Clients: 40% of the Associate’s fee
  • Insurance Clients: $38–$45 per session (based on session type: therapy hour, or initial intake)
  • Professional Liability Coverage: Associate is covered under the practice’s professional liability insurance policy
