Overview
Key Responsibilities:
Tool Room Operations: Manage day-to-day operations of the tool room, ensuring that tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures are properly maintained, stored, and ready for production use.
Tool Maintenance & Repair: Oversee the maintenance, sharpening, and repair of all tools and production equipment, ensuring their readiness and minimizing downtime in production.
Inventory Management: Maintain an accurate inventory of tools and supplies, ensuring proper stock levels and timely ordering of replacement parts and tools.
Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of toolmakers and technicians, ensuring they are well-trained, motivated, and working efficiently to meet production needs.
Tooling Support for Production: Collaborate with production teams to provide tooling solutions, troubleshoot tooling issues, and ensure the proper setup of tools for new product runs.
Process Optimization: Identify and implement improvements in tool room processes, including increasing tool life, reducing scrap, and improving efficiency.
Safety & Compliance: Ensure the tool room operates in compliance with company safety standards and relevant regulatory requirements. Promote a culture of safety and ensure all team members adhere to safety procedures.
Cost Control: Manage tool room budget and ensure efficient use of resources, minimizing tool wear, and reducing unnecessary expenses.
Documentation & Reporting: Keep accurate records of tool maintenance, repairs, usage, and inventory. Provide regular reports on tool room activities and performance metrics.
Collaboration with Other Departments: Work closely with the production, engineering, and quality control teams to meet production goals and resolve tooling-related issues.
Training & Development: Provide ongoing training to tool room staff on the latest techniques, tools, and safety standards, ensuring the continuous development of the team.
Skills and Qualifications:
Experience: At least 4-10 years of experience in tool room management or a similar role within a manufacturing environment.
Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of tool making, tool design, maintenance processes, and machinery. Proficiency in handling various types of tools and machinery, such as VMC machines, grinding machines, and milling machines.
Leadership Skills: Proven experience in managing a team, with the ability to motivate, mentor, and develop employees.
Problem-Solving Skills: Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, with experience addressing tooling or production issues effectively.
Attention to Detail: High attention to detail and focus on maintaining tooling and production quality standards.
Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with team members, management, and other departments.
Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Safety Awareness: In-depth knowledge of workplace safety standards and regulations, particularly in a tool room or manufacturing environment.
Education: A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field is preferred. Alternatively, a diploma or certification in Tool & Die making or a related discipline can be considered.
